Are you looking for a time-saving, cost-effective, and high-quality solution for short-run thread-stitching in digital printing? If so, Smyth’s manual or semi-automatic thread book sewing machines are the ideal way to get started.
The challenge: producing short runs in a short amount of time
Very short runs with constantly changing final formats and page counts are typical for the thread sewing of books in sheetfed digital printing in the 35 x 50 and 50 x 70 format classes. The orders come online, are printed digitally and cut. They then have to be transported quickly for thread sewing and then immediately sent to book production. This is the only way to meet the short deadlines for delivery of the ordered book in print-on-demand.
The right thread book sewing machine for every book production scenario
In our portfolio, you’ll find three different types of Smyth thread book sewing machines, each with different features, depending on how you have organized your post-press processing:
- If you already have a folding machine or a machine for layer folding, such as Bookletmaker, either the FX-30 or the FX-50 is the right machine for you. The FX-50 has a side feeder, which makes it a little easier to use when it comes to feeding the sheets. It also has a slightly higher output.
- If you need to send the printed sheets directly from the digital press to the book sewing machine, then we recommend the DX-50. It has an integrated folding device, which makes this job a snap.
- By purchasing an FX-50, you keep all your options open for potential future upgrades: it can be equipped with a folder feeder and upgraded to a DX-50.
