Each brand has its own unique characteristics – not only in terms of day-to-day operation, but also when it comes to repair and maintenance. In addition to selling new and used machines, maintenance and repair have been part of our DNA since the company was founded. With our customers’ needs in mind, we deliberately avoid focusing on a single brand, instead covering the entire spectrum of machine manufacturers that dominate the industry: Whether Müller-Martini, Heidelberg, Smyth, or Hohner – our technicians know the machines and understand what needs to be done to minimize downtime.
Another advantage of our neutral approach is the ability to bundle maintenance and repair orders. A PPL technician can repair or service several machines from different manufacturers within a single job.
What distinguishes the machines from different manufacturers?
The machines from Müller-Martini, Heidelberg, Smyth, and Hohner are not fundamentally different – but they differ in the details. The manufacturers have found different ways to meet the specific challenges of the post-press process. Examples include the different feeder designs in Müller-Martini and Heidelberg saddle stitchers, or the varying operating speeds of perfect binders. Consequently, resolving the same problem on machines from different manufacturers requires not only specific spare parts but also different expertise – our technicians are not specialized in individual brands, but rather in specific applications. With this professional background, we are ideally equipped for all maintenance and repair tasks.
Should we encounter any limitations, we will communicate this openly and involve the manufacturer directly or specialized freelancers.

However, there are also specific characteristics for each manufacturer, which are listed below:
Müller-Martini: Here, PPL can draw on the knowledge of former employees of the machine manufacturer, who support us in our work.
Heidelberg Machines: For this manufacturer, we have a particularly extensive selection of spare parts in large quantities. This applies especially to products that were installed and sold at the former Leipzig location, namely saddle stitchers and perfect binders.
Smyth: We have a particularly close working relationship with Smyth that goes far beyond a classic sales and service partnership. We are in close contact with many employees and obtain our knowledge firsthand.
Hohner: For this manufacturer, our service is largely limited to spare parts and maintenance.
Our Approach: A Flexible Complement to Manufacturer Services
We see our services as a flexible complement to manufacturers’ services and sometimes as a welcome alternative when companies desire greater independence. We even receive repair orders directly from manufacturers when they lack the resources for swift implementation – after all, machine availability must be guaranteed at all times.
Technical Preliminary Assessment of Defective Spare Parts
Another major advantage is the technical preliminary assessment of defective spare parts. As a customer, you simply cannot provide this level of in-house research due to the extensive research required and the specialized knowledge needed. With PPL, however, you have a single point of contact for spare parts from various manufacturers who has a comprehensive overview of the entire market.
